The History of Sublime® Spring Water

Written by: Michèle Morkel

Our story began in 2012 when Albert, our founder, bought a farm at the foot of the Aconcagua mountain in Argentina's Mendoza Province. With a summit elevation of 6,961 meters (22,838 ft), Aconcagua is part of the Andes Mountain range and the tallest mountain in the Americas. It is one of the Seven Summits of the seven continents, the highest outside of Asia, and the highest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Albert discovered that the land possessed one of the purest natural mineral waters in the world, coming from such a remote and pristine source. Driven by his passion for perfection, he saw it as a great opportunity to start a business by sharing this unique resource with discerning water connoisseurs around the world.

Our design team came up with an elegant frosted glass bottle design to capture and preserve the superb quality of its contents. The decision to use glass, and not plastic bottles, was further inspired by our concern for the environment and desire to create a product that would be fully recyclable, without plastic labels or caps. Instead, our label is screenprinted directly onto the bottle, which is a more expensive but environmentally friendly process. Guided by the strictest guidelines in quality control, we set up a bottling plant on the farm, and in Mendoza, from which to distribute our precious product into the world.

After four years of research and preparation, we successfully tested the market in the US and Middle East in 2016, and were assured that we have indeed managed to create a product that is unique in its class, and appreciated by those who share our passion for perfection and concern for the environment. Our company in Florida, USA was formed in 2018 and manages our sales to the US market.

In 2020 we added a Sparkling Water to our product range, and in 2022 we registered the trademark “Sublime®” to protect our brand.

In a quest to introduce our brand to other regions whilst remaining true to our environmentally conscious values, we looked at the possibility of bottling in other parts of the world where the local water quality would meet our high standards.

Near the Southern tip of Africa we found such a source at the foot of the Paarl Mountains of the Western Cape. The fact that there is a remarkable similarity between the composition of the water in Argentina and South Africa is no coincidence, as the two continents were once joined, over 200 million years ago, in the landmass of Gondwana, part of the super continent Pangea, before South America started to move westward away from Africa. This explains the similarity between geologic structures, plant and animal fossils found on the similar coastlines of South America and Africa, which are now widely separated by the Atlantic Ocean.

In 2022 we started to bottle at our South African source in locally produced glass bottles that proudly bear the name Sublime™ under license of our US company.

We continue to be driven by the fact that Sublime® Water is unlike anything else in the beverage industry, and remain steadfast in our mission to bring this superior product to the world. We are a family business under the expert and passionate guidance of our founder, whose vision has become a reality and the benchmark for perfection.
